| WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
In the beginning, the idea of reactivating the 68th ARS, after 50 years was just a wild dream of mine. I had no knowledge of how to go about finding buddies that I hadn't seen in half a century. Well, along came a fellow named John Kibodeaux, a cross country trucker, who just happened to be my nephew. I mentioned to him that I had an old Air Force buddy, who came from Waycross, Georgia, back during the 1950s.
Later, during a run to Florida, John stopped in Waycross, and made the very first buddy search phone call, and located my old friend, Jack Highsmith. Since that first phone call, the 68th has grown to over 150 members, and reunited many old friends, who felt that they would never see each other again. John is an ex-Marine who served 2 tours in Vietnam, and without his unselfish act we may never have gotten the 68th back together. Bob Hambrick |
